A STORY OF TALENT: SANT’ANNA SCHOOL PhD STUDENT IN TRANSLATIONAL MEDICINE AWARDED THE EUROPEAN FUTURE LEADERS MENTORSHIP FOR CLINICAL DIABETOLIGISTS

Founded in 2000, the European Foundation for the Study of Diabetes (EFSD) offers funding for young scientists to stimulate diabetes research in Europe and associated countries. Three young and talented Italian researchers are the award recipients of the EFSD Future Leaders Mentorship Programme 2018.

Francesca Cinti of the Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore - Roma; Rocky Strollo of the Università Campus Bio-Medico - Roma and Domenico Tricó, PhD Student at Sant’Anna School are offered the opportunity to refine their skills in the three cardinal areas of clinical diabetes, research and communication with a leading European clinical diabetologist serving as personal Mentor. They (the mentees) will pursue a research project under the supervision of their Mentor, and participate in a tailor-made continuing education 3-year programme to gain further clinical and research expertise and develop leadership skills.

Since its inception, the European Foundation for the Study of Diabetes (EASD) has committed over 100 million euros to enhance awareness in Europe of the severity and magnitude of this disease. On the EASD annual meeting in Berlin, the Novo Nordisk Foundation that mainly supports research within biomedicine, biotechnology, and general medicine at public research institutes has announced 4 additional grants for diabetes-related studies.
